Katherine Dyer is a Masters student in the Department of Political Science at the University of Waterloo.

 

Katherine completed an internship in the summer of 2014 at the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) in the understanding domestic radicalization project.This internship helped shape her understanding of the complex nature of terrorism as well as provided her with skills to continue research into this field.

As part of her work at the University of Waterloo, Katherine will be writing a research paper in the field of counter terrorism policy. Specifically, she is interested in exploring the role of local police in their response to terrorism activity. She will be exploring the training received by local police in responding to terrorist attacks and the change or lack there of since 2000. Further, she is interested in researching the traditional principles of policing and its effect on counterterrorism. She hopes to continue into the research field of counter terrorism through pursuing a PhD.
