Mosaic Institute: The Perception and Reality of “Imported Conflict »

Dates: mars 17, 2014 to Array
Location: Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, ON

On Monday, March 17, 2014 the Mosaic Institute will release its seminal report The Perception and Reality of “Imported Conflict” in Canada at a conference at the Art Gallery of Ontario.

The day’s program will include in-depth discussions on the report’s findings, a special private tour of the AGO’s contemporary Canadian art collection, and a closing keynote presentation by Dr. Tasleem Budhwani, a noted psychologist and leading Canadian expert in how to counter violent extremism.

Funded as part of the Government of Canada’s “Kanishka Project”, the report examines Canadians’ preconceptions and concerns about “imported conflict” in an effort to understand how Canadians from conflict-afflicted regions think about and relate to those conflicts once they are in Canada. It reflects insights received from almost 5000 survey respondents, more than 200 individual interviews, and multiple focus groups. While the report’s particular focus is on conflicts involving Afghanistan, India-Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Israel-Palestine, Armenia-Turkey, the Horn of Africa, the Former Yugoslavia, and the Sudans, its importance lies in what it tells all of us about ourselves.
